Outcomes : Microdiscectomy (lumbar)

Microdiscectomy (Lumbar) is usually performed in a “keyhole” or “mini-open” fashion. A number of interchangeable terms can be given to a fragment of intervertebral disc compressing a nerve or nerves in the lumbar spine such as prolapsed, slipped, bulging, protruding or sequestered. The most common symptoms are sciatica (pain and/or pins and needles) but “radiculopathy” can be present causing weakness or numbness. The procedure involves removing the nerve compression and usually requires an overnight stay.
